DNB in Family Medicine

With the increasing gap in India between rural and urban, rich and poor and with the increasing realization of the inadequacy of MBBS training to equip graduates to be good generalist doctors in rural areas, Family Medicine has emerged as one of the greatest needs for the current health scenario in India. With skewed ratios of specialists to generalists and the aggrandizement of specialist training, the government has realized the need to train a large number of doctors to be specialists in general medicine, to specialize in families and people, and therefore be able to care for 80-90% of all the general health needs of a community.

Herbertpur Christian Hospital is accredited by the National Board of Examinations for the conducting of training in Family Medicine, with three seats per year. Trainees who complete this three year program and who pass the National Board Examination after the completion of the training will receive the DNB in Family Medicine.

Our goal is to be one of the best Family Medicine Training Program in India. Through a combination of commitment of the hospital to host the training, a group of committed consultants, a strong group of existing residents, and the use of cutting edge technology to assist in training, we hope to see this goal realized. Our vision is to:

‘Train leaders in Family Medicine for the transformation of communities through clinical excellence, compassion and integrity.’
